Water Filtration System Solutions

Water Filtration System Solutions

Water Filter

Water is vital for the survival of humanity. It exists around us in rivers, lakes and oceans yet it is not potable. The creation of water filtration systems made it possible to sieve water obtained from unreliable sources and make it suitable for consumption. There are many filters available commercially and their filtration systems work through different processes in making water safe to drink. These products and their filtration process are discussed below.

Water Distillers

With the introduction of water distillers, people believed that pure water had no way of letting harmful organisms in the body. Today there is increasing awareness on the effects of distilled water on human health. This is because distilled water has no minerals hence affecting mineral balance in the body. People have come to realize that the minerals dissolved in water are more important for body function than distilled water. Minerals offer support to the body's immune system as well as metabolism.

Ultra Violet Radiation Systems

Ultra Violet Radiation systems involve the use of light at high frequency to eliminate organisms in water. The use of UV systems is common in third world countries, because water from these areas cause more serious diseases, especially from sewage seeping down to the water table. This system is an excellent sterilizer. However, the water must be analyzed in a laboratory before it can be cleared for drinking.

Homemade Water Filter

Ordinary items in the home create good homemade water filtration systems, for example, charcoal is a great filtering agent when making a water filter. Home made water filters are a great benefit when camping or in emergencies.

Charcoal Water Filters

Charcoal water filters come in various forms such as activated charcoal, carbon block or micron rating. The use of a carbon block is the best in this form of filtration because the water seeps through much slower than when using loose charcoal.

Carbon filters are however susceptible to mould attacks when not used for long periods especially in areas with high humidity. They also attract and hold the organic matter contained in the water that can easily rot. This indicates that carbon filters become less efficient with use. This change also affects the taste of the water indicating the need to change the filter regularly. In addition, carbon filters are not able to change the pH of water because acidic minerals dissolve in it. As such, water-containing acid remains contaminated.

Hikers, kayakers and campers in their outdoor pursuits need a water filtration solution they can use outdoors. This applies especially in areas that do not have designated campsites that provide water suitable for drinking.

Water filtration systems have helped provide safe drinking water especially to people living in areas with a water shortage crisis. The future holds great advances in filtration technology as scientific research demonstrates ways of separating water from other harmful substances. This new generation of water filters will take water recycling and filtration to the next level, ensuring that saline water or contaminated surface water becomes readily available for consumption.

Jungle Bubble

Jungle Bubble On YouTube.

Presenting "Jungle Bubble", my entry into the Aquatic Gardeners' Association 11th Annual Aquascaping Contest (2010). It's about 31 liters in total volume (I think I said 35 by mistake) and 40 cm in diameter. This bowl requires no filtration, as the plants provide it themselves. The water is still crystal clear after a week. Apart from light (11W fluorescent and 4W LED, both from IKEA, 13 hours/day), CO2 (about 0.7 bubbles/second for 10 hours/day), and Tetro Pro Colour food, I add only Seachem Potassium, Iron, and Trace, in doses of about 50-100% of advised levels, once or twice a week, depending on plant health and algae level. Algae does slowly accumulate as pinpricks on the glass, which I remove during my weekly maintenance cycle, along with any plant leaves that I choose to trim. I change about 80% of the water per week, not because it needs so much, but because it allows me access to the plants at the bottom of the bowl for trimming. Fish: 3 cardinal tetras, 2 ember tetras, 2 blue ram cichlids, 2 otocinclus catfish, and 2 Yamato (Amano) shrimp. I feed them once a day in an amount that can be eaten in about 10 minutes. I have no heater, as I live in the tropics. (Contrary to what I said in the video, I suppose my temperature is stable enough year-round, although I don't have a way to place the bowl in the sun and keep it cool enough.) A word of warning: as you can see in my other video about silvertip tetras (which were sent back to the store for bad behavior), this ...

The Function of a Sand Water Filter and Its Benefits

The Function of a Sand Water Filter and Its Benefits

Water Filter

A sand water filter has different functions. It is a filter made out of sand that helps to get contaminants out of water (H2O), including sand itself and particles similar to it. They are composed of many levels of gravel and sand that ultimately become more fine. It is ironic that sand is one of the substances that the filter takes out of drinking sources. The technology employed to make these items is over one hundred years old, and the filters are more commonly used in less developed nations today.

These filters are known for removing solid particles out of drinking supplies. People who get their water from municipalities do not need these items, as city departments already perform this function. It is people who get their supply from a private source, such as wells, who would get the most use out of a sand filter. If a homeowner's well H2O supply is thoroughly tested to be free of debris, then a sand filter would in fact be all that he or she needs.

Sand filters are not constructed to clean water that is tainted with tiny particles. These are the types that can not be seen within a clear container of liquid. Other than in the situation of a natural drinking source, this type of filter would need to be used in conjunction with another one. In a lot of cases, the second filter also needs to take out particulates, which are tiny particles not visible to the human eye.

One of the best uses of a sand filter is for a swimming pool. They are a lot less costly than cartridge filters are. Nonetheless, while some money will be saved when the initial purchase of the filter is made, having a sand filter can very well result in a higher bill for water each month. This is since it takes more H2O to clean and wash such a filter than it would otherwise.

For homeowners with pools which are near trees, a sand filter is their best bet. The dirt from the surrounding area can more easily block up cartridge filters. This would require cleaning the filters a few times each week, which can get both tedious and expensive after a while.

In conclusion, sand filters have been around for over a century. They are ideal for filtering out contaminants from wells and swimming pools, though they can lead to bigger H2O bills where pools are concerned.

The Best Ways to Get Pure Drinking Water at Home

The Best Ways to Get Pure Drinking Water at Home

Water Filter

The importance of pure drinking water cannot be overemphasized and the same thing applies for a good water filter as well. They are the most useful and essential ways in being able to have pure water at home.

The human body can react to a very low percentage of toxic chemicals and the organs are very sensitive to any of these if they are present. This is why having a water filter at home is of utmost importance.

There are many types of filters available. All of their working fundamentals are different and you will have to choose one according to your particular need. There are various things to consider before buying one of these filters available today. First you have to know about what type of water filters are available and see how they function.

The very basic type of water filter is the sieving water filter. They have metal or plastic sieves to filter the impure content of water. This mainly filters the big colloidal particles from water and is the fastest type of water filter; but they do not offer protection against smaller particles or any chemical waste. These filters are not very good for home use.

Some cheap, effective and popular types of filters are the rock and sand bed water filters. The impure water has to pass through various layers of rock and sand. These layers are thick and it takes time to pass through them, but this type of filter is more effective since it can resist smaller particles as well. Sometimes the layers contain some kind of chemical that can neutralize the effects of the impurities found in water.

There is also the reverse osmosis water filters. These uses the chemical processes called the reverse osmosis and are actually good for large- commercial purposes; but this is not the same case when you speak of home use. They are also very expensive to buy and somewhat complicated to install.

The electronic filters are becoming very popular nowadays. They use the function of electrolytic process, to eliminate any micro-organism and chemical impurities in the water that you drink; these are ideal for home use.

By knowing the various methods of filtering water, you will be able to choose which type is best for use in your home.

Are Everpure Water Filters the Best Quality?

Are Everpure Water Filters the Best Quality?

Water Filter

Are Everpure water filters the best quality or the best price? If effective contaminant removal fits your definition of quality, then some of their models are of good quality, but not the best.

It is easy to see that the company does not offer the best prices. Their least expensive model costs 9.99, does not remove THMs, VOCs or other cancer-causing chemicals and replacement cartridges cost over 0. Other systems remove all of those things and more, with models costing 4.99 and replacement cartridges costing . It's kind of a "no-brainer".

The Everpure water filters that do provide effective contaminant removal (those that reduce THMs and other cancer-causers) cost nearly 0. Why so much? One reason is the inclusion of a reverse osmosis step. Technological advancements have made this step an unnecessary expense, but some manufacturers still include it.

At one time, reverse osmosis was the best way to remove cysts and lead. It was used in areas where the mineral content was high, arsenic was present or salt was a problem. But, Everpure water filters were not designed for use in rural areas that might have these kinds of problems. They were designed for use by people that are serviced by a public treatment facility.

Reverse osmosis does not remove the cancer-causing chemical contaminants mentioned above, so Ever-pure and companies like them added additional steps to address those issues. They still don't use the most advanced technologies, though, so their prices are high.

Today, even the least expensive systems on the market will remove cysts. You only need to shop for a system that is certified to filter down to one micron. The best systems filter down to a half a micron. Cysts, as you may know, cause waterborne illnesses that can be deadly to those with poorly functioning immune systems. They are tiny parasitic creatures that are resistant chlorine and other disinfection methods.

Inexpensive systems will also remove lead, using ion exchange. If you compare product performance data, you will see that some systems remove more than 99% of all traces of the hazardous heavy metal. Ion exchange also improves the taste of your water, by exchanging metallic ions for sodium and potassium ions. It makes your water taste like it came from a spring. Many bottling companies add these minerals to improve the taste.

Water from systems that include a reverse osmosis step is relatively tasteless. To most people, it makes them think of old or stale waters. Our taste-buds recognize freshness by recognizing the taste of minerals. We prefer cold water, because it is less likely to contain bacteria.

Everpure water filters only reduce lead by about 98%. The company documents state that lead is reduced to the "federal action level". That level is not considered safe for regular long-term consumption. No amount of lead, regardless of how tiny, is safe for consumption.

Rushing to Buy a Countertop Reverse Osmosis Filter? Read This First

Rushing to Buy a Countertop Reverse Osmosis Filter? Read This First

Water Filter

One of the things that have always surprised me is the popularity of countertop reverse osmosis units. A lot of people still think that they are the best choice when it comes to water filters - something which is evident from the fact that water filter manufacturers sell hundreds of thousands of countertop RO units every year. As someone who has studied water purification in detail, I have something very important to tell you guys.

Countertop reverse osmosis units are not the best choice for you. By drinking water that has been purified by reverse (RO) osmosis process, you are putting your health at risk big time. I understand that what I am saying might come as a big surprise to most of you guys, but make sure you read this article fully. By the time you finish reading it, you will understand that what I am saying is right.

First of all, let me make something very clear. I have nothing against the companies which sell countertop reverse osmosis units. My problem is not with their water purifiers, but with the purification process itself. So, basically, what I am going to say applies not just to countertop filters, but to any type of water filter that is based on reverse osmosis. Now that I have made it clear, let me tell you why I think reverse osmosis is not the right method to purify tap water.

1. In reverse osmosis, water is passed through a semi permeable membrane which removes contaminants like cysts, dirt, heavy metals, and certain viruses and bacteria. The big problem, however, is that the membrane is not capable of removing any contaminants that is smaller in size than water molecules. As a result, small contaminants like volatile organic compounds pass through the membrane easily.

2. Water contains lots of essential minerals which are very good for your health. An RO unit, however, removes these essential minerals as they are larger in size than water molecules. So, you get de-mineralized distilled water which is only good to be used in car batteries and chemical labs. By drinking this kind of water, you could develop several health problems.

3. You all know what chlorinated water smells and tastes like - awful. Reverse osmosis is not capable of removing chlorine from tap water and, as a result, the filtered water you get from countertop reverse osmosis units smells and tastes just as bad as tap water. Moreover, it is not capable of removing the harmful byproducts of chlorination which can cause serious health problems including cancer.

4. A typical countertop RO unit wastes lots of water. To produce a gallon of pure water, it wastes nearly four gallons of water. This, needless to say, is terribly bad for the environment. Water is a precious commodity and it is meant to be treated like one.

5. Above all, countertop reverse osmosis units cost a lot. You need to spend thousands of dollars on installation alone. After knowing the shortcomings of reverse (RO) osmosis, I am not sure if someone would be willing to spend that kind of money on RO units.

Now, after reading this, you might have a question - is there a better alternative? My answer to you is - yes, there is. You see - there are several water purification methods that are way better than reverse osmosis. The ones that immediately come to mind are active carbon filtration, sub micron filtration, and ion exchange. These methods are capable of removing more than 99% of the contaminants present in tap water, including chlorine. And, most importantly, they retain the essential minerals present in water. So, instead of countertop reverse osmosis filters, you can go for a water filter based on any of these methods or a combination of all three methods. This way, you get to drink clean, tasty water every day.

My take on this issue is very simple - why spend so much money on countertop reverse osmosis water filters when there are much better alternatives available at affordable prices? Read this article thoroughly, ask yourself this question, and make an informed decision today.

Install a Charcoal Shower Head Water Filter and Have Healthy Hair Again

Install a Charcoal Shower Head Water Filter and Have Healthy Hair Again

Water Filter

Are you struggling with dry unmanageable hair, or dry itchy skin? If so you need to install a charcoal shower head water filter so your water isn't robbing your hair and skin of it's natural essential oils.

But before you purchase a shower filter its important to understand what contaminants a filter should remove. There are many filters on the market with wildly different price tags and different capabilities. And as with most products the price of the product doesn't always equate to the quality of the product.

So lets look at what a charcoal shower head water filter needs to remove from your water to get you that nice healthy glow back in your hair.

First off it must remove the chlorine from the water. I don't think anyone will be surprised at the fact chlorine is in every water supply and is incredibly harsh on your hair and skin. Also if you've ever been in a swimming pool you know all about chlorine and you can't wait to take a shower to get that stuff off you when your done swimming.

Any charcoal shower head water filter you buy will filter out this chlorine because charcoal is the active ingredient that is required to remove it. So this one is a no brainer.

The second thing you should look for is a filter that removes THM's. THM's are compounds that result from a reaction between organic materials in drinking water and the chlorine that's added. These thing sound bad for you and they are. You need to get them removed from your water.

Lastly we need to talk about the filter cost. A shower filter can cost anywhere from a low of to a high of 0 but if you do your research you can find a very acceptable unit near the bottom of the range quite easily.

Now it's up to you to do your own research to find a charcoal shower head water filter that will restore your hair to health and relieve your dry skin. Remember to find one that will filter out chlorine and those bad THM's. And lastly don't forget you don't need to spend an arm and a leg to get a great filter.

Custom fabricated turtle habitat

Custom fabricated turtle habitat Video Clips.

This is a custom made turtle habitat done by myself and a little help from my brother, I have two red ear sliders, one is around 8 years old and the other about 7 years old. I designed the tank and stand with plexiglass and wood, it took about 3 months to complete and around a k budget. The tank holds about 65 gallons of water, I wanted to do it bigger but my apartment is too small. Inside I included: A water heater, fluval 305 filter, 36in strip light, basking light and platform, automatic feeder, red night light and some pebbles, also I custom made an air filter using computer cooling fans and included an additional 10 gallon tank useful for fishes or perhaps incubation for possible eggs my turtle may lay. If there is any other questions, I'll be willing to answer :)

The Dangers of Fluoride & Water Fluoridation

The Dangers of Fluoride & Water Fluoridation Video Clips.

Since the 1940's fluoride is used in toothpaste and is added to drinking water in many countries around the world. The dental profession claims that fluoride is safe and necessary for good dental health. naturalnews.com Fluoride is actually toxic waste from the aluminium, phosphoric acid and phosphate fertilizer industries. Millions of tons of fluoride are produced each year. mbschachter.com Up until the 1930's, fluoride was discharged directly into the air and waterways, causing great damage. Lawsuits were mounting as more and more victims learned that their problems were caused by fluoride poisoning. The industry's response was to change the public's perception of fluoride. Many 'scientific' studies were presented to convince the public that fluoride was safe. Lucrative positions were created for 'research' and 'education' with the express purpose of promoting the use of fluoride in toothpaste and in drinking water. Instead of paying millions for disposal of this toxic waste, fluoride was now being sold to toothpaste and water companies! Sediment Water Filters - Are They Just a Waste of Your Money?

Sediment Water Filters - Are They Just a Waste of Your Money?

Water Filter

The manufacturers of sediment water filters have enjoyed a fair number of sales over the last couple of years using an advertising campaign designed to catch the eye of mostly suburban homeowners.

These filters range from simple sand traps, to electricity driven equipment like reverse osmosis filter systems. These filters serve a purpose, but not for the average homeowner.

If you are one of the millions that have their water supplied by municipal water treatment facilities, then you have absolutely no need for a filter system that removes silt and sand.

This is because one of the main objectives of the treatment facility is to strain your water for particulates. The water travels through porous membrane filters that get progressively smaller as they go, and this removes all but microscopic particles.

There isn't a sediment water filter on the market that is going to collect a large number of particulates from water that has been through the treatment facility.

Their equipment is designed for demineralization, so you don't have to worry about particulates showing up in your water.

What you do have to worry about though is everything that the treatment facilities do not remove from your water.

Did you know that just about every one of the 80,000 industrial chemicals we use everyday in order to make our lives easier ends up in the water supply?

How about the fact that the favored method for disposing of out of date pharmaceuticals is flushing them down the toilet as recommended by the pharmaceutical companies?

Do you realize that the chemical used most often to disinfect our water was once used a chemical weapon?

It is impossible for the porous membrane filters of the water treatment facilities to eliminate chemical contaminants from our drinking water, so obviously sediment water filters aren't going to help you here either.

Expensive, wasteful reverse osmosis equipment features an activated carbon filter that will remove chemical matter from your water. What are you going to do about cysts and toxic heavy metals though?

Cysts are chlorine resistant parasites that are a threat to the health of everyone that drinks unfiltered tap water.

A special filter that uses sub micron technology is necessary in order to effectively remove these microbes from your water.

Toxic heavy metals such as copper and lead are eliminated through the use of an ion exchange, which swaps sodium and potassium for the heavy metals in your water and also balances your pH levels.

A sediment water filter is needed in places where the only available water comes from wells, and a simple sand trap will do just fine here.

Some people dependant on well water choose to use reverse osmosis filter systems, because they perform demineralization and reduce chemicals. They would be better off with the same countertop tap water system people in the suburbs should be using, and using the low budget sediment filter to trap sand and silt.

Sediment water filters may not be useful to everyone, but a tap water purifier featuring granular activated carbon, submicron technology, and an ion exchange certainly will be.
